New Delhi: Police said on Thursday that a 24-year-old man was detained for allegedly posting pornographic images and videos of his ex-girlfriend on social media in an effort to discredit her and put pressure on her family to marry him.
They claimed that the culprit, Saket resident Kumar Avinash, also publicized the victim's and her mother's mobile numbers on social media.

The victim claimed in a police report filed on June 6 that she had been getting calls and texts from shady numbers since June 1 and later learned that someone had made bogus accounts for her on Facebook, Instagram, and other social media sites.

The victim has also been featured in obscene pictures and images on these social media sites, according to the authorities.

The offender was apprehended, according to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Shahdara) Rohit Meena, after technological data analysis and the tracking of IP addresses of the false IDs.

Avinash revealed during questioning that he attended the same college as the victim and was dating her. But the woman broke off their connection because her family did not support it, he claimed.

"The accused wanted to date the victim, so he created fictitious IDs to post her pornographic photos and videos on social media. He believed that by putting her family under pressure, they would force her to marry him as a result of the libel.

The police reported that they have recovered a laptop and two mobile phones used by the accused in the crime's commission and that they are continuing their investigation.
