The Supreme Court hears requests to make same-sex marriage legal.

The Centre urged the Supreme Court today to include all of the states and Union Territories as parties in the proceedings on the petitions seeking the legal recognition of same-sex unions.


Last year, two gay couples filed separate petitions with the Supreme Court asking for the enforcement of their right to wed and a directive to the relevant authorities to register their marriages under the Special Marriage Act. The Supreme Court requested the Center's answer to these petitions.
